Public health minister Anne Milton presented ASH chief executive Deborah Arnott with an award from the World Health Organisation at a special meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Smoking and Health.
Milton presented Arnott with the World No Tobacco Day Award 2011 in recognition of ASH’s "dynamic" international work.
The meeting, held to mark the anti-smoking group's 40th anniversary, was hosted by Liberal Democrat MP Stephen Williams, chairman of the APPG on Smoking and Health.
Other speakers were Labour MP Kevin Barron, chairman of the Health Select Committee when the smoking ban was introduced in England in 2007, Sir Richard Thompson, president of the Royal College of Physicians, which founded ASH in 1971, and Professor John Moxam, chairman of ASH.

I've just watched an episode of south park which portrays the anti-smoking lobby as the evil fascists they are!
The episode, from season seven is called "Butt Out".
I think this is the first time I've seen anything on tv...albeit a cartoon show...that puts a positive slant on smokers rights. It was actually very well made!

This is about as newsworthy as Cameron saying Osbourne is good at his job, It is good to see though that WHO has so managed to get the worlds health problems, ie Disease Bad water , malnutrition to name a few, that they now have time to pat another pharmaceutical puppet on the back.

I read an independent transcript of this and Anne Milton actually thanks the Vice Chair of the parliamentary group on smoking for his "behind the scenes" help. Thought Ministers were supposed to be independent on such matters?? In this case the department of health has given ASH its funding on the agreement that it is not to be spent on lobbying and what does it do? It funds and provides the secretariat for a parliamantary lobby group - which the Minister thanks for its behind the scenes lobbying. Ministerial misconduct and misappropriation of government funding on the terms in which it was granted.

You wouldn't all be so miserable and wound up if you weren't drug addicts. At least a junkie at some level understands the destructiveness of their behavior, I work in public health and see people every day gasping for air, sucking down O2 in a desperate attempt to drag out their miserable existance by a few more months. Ask any one of them what they think of smokers rights, you're pathetic.
