Olympics: smoking to be banned in all ticketed areas
Tuesday 22nd November 2011, posted by forest
Organisers of the 2012 Olympic Games in London are planning to ban smoking in outdoor areas as well as indoor stadiums.
The ban is expected to cover the entire 102-hectare London Olympic Park.
Fans in non-covered areas watching events including rowing at Dorney Lake, Bucks, and sailing off the Dorset coast will also be forbidden from lighting up.
An Olympics spokesman said last night that smoking would not be allowed in any ticketed areas.
So thousands of people watching equestrian events at London’s Green-wich Park, archery at Lord’s and beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade will be hit by the ban.
The spokesman said it would be impossible to impose the ban on people lining non-ticketed public roads to watch the marathon.
He added: “Whether we will have any designated smoking areas is still under discussion.”
A spokesman for ASH, which campaigns to “eliminate harm caused by tobacco”, said the ban made “perfect sense”.
But Simon Clark, of smokers’ lobby group Forest, said: “I can understand if people are sitting side by side but not a ban in open areas or open concourses.”

You will have them banning smoking in the streets with statements like this, the ruse will be that people have to sit down and could sit down next to a smoker, Simon you went down to Stony Stratford as I did why did you bother with statements like this, there is no justification for banning smoking indoors never mind sitting side by side outdoors as the health risk is totally insignificant.
Join UKIP and stand for parliament or the council as I have done, we are the only party who will amend the smoking ban, and the only light in this dark tunnel. Dewsbury West Yorkshire.
