'Smokers of the world unite! We have been bullied and nannied long enough.'

Tom Utley, columnist,
Daily Telegraph
February 2002

Consumer information

INCREASING restrictions on smoking in public places means there is more need for information about where and when people can light up.

As it evolves, FOREST Online will gradually feature a series of Smokers' Guides that we hope will provide some useful information of benefit to both smokers and non-smokers.

We will of course be conducting our own research (coming soon: a guide to high street coffee shops) but we would be delighted to hear from anyone who wishes to recommend any smoker-friendly establishment, however remote (see I-Spy, right).

In addition, it's time to Name and Shame those companies, institutions and venues that have chosen to climb aboard the Puritan Express and ban smoking outright. This page is still in preparation but if you'd like to contribute please send an email to: info@forestonline.org.

We also intend to pass on advice that might help those who choose to Quit Smoking. FOREST is not in the business of encouraging people either to smoke or to give up, but there are obviously some smokers who want to quit and if you are reading this it would be wrong to ignore your situation.

After all, if you succeed in giving up we want you to remain a Friend of FOREST as a tolerant ex-smoker and not one of those embittered, anti-smoking ex-smokers we often read in the papers or come up against on radio phone-ins!
