Forest: plain pack review "premature"

Campaigners opposed to plain packaging of tobacco have accused the government of ignoring the views of hundreds of thousands of people who opposed the policy in a public consultation.

Thousands of UK consumers want the EU to abandon proposals to ban menthol cigarettes, increase size of health warnings and outlaw smaller packs of roll your own tobacco.

Forest has appointed political commentator and former member of the Scottish Parliament Brian Monteith as editor of its Free Society website.

Consumers and retailers invited to petition MEPs to stop the introduction of legislation banning tobacco products and restricting choice in the UK.

Opposition to plain packaging mounts

An estimated 500,000 people have registered their opposition to the introduction of plain packaging in the UK.

The decision by the High Court of Australia to reject a legal challenge against the introduction of plain packaging for tobacco products in Australia will not affect opposition to the measure in the United Kingdom, say campaigners.

Forest is marking the fifth anniversary of the smoking ban in England by renewing its call for an amendment to the ban that would allow separate smoking rooms in pubs and private members’ clubs.

Smokers light up for freedom

Forest last night hosted a ‘Freedom Dinner’ to mark the fifth anniversary of the smoking ban in England.

Opponents of plain packaging of tobacco have launched an online video entitled Plain Packaging – No Minister!.
