Forest news & comment

Forest has criticised a proposed bill that would make it an offence to smoke on NHS sites in England.

Proposal to ban smoking in outdoor dining areas in St Helier, Jersey, is a 'solution in search of a problem', says Forest.

Forest director Simon Clark said, "No-one has the right to smoke in jail but smoking is one of the few pleasures many prisoners have."

A former minister has been given the title 'Nanny-in-Chief 2018' for "outstanding services to the nanny state" at a dinner in Dublin.

"Reaching into smokers’ homes takes tobacco control in a new and rather sinister direction."

Forest Ireland has announced the shortlist for its Golden Nanny Awards to be held in Dublin next week.

Forest has criticised a new smoking policy that has been imposed on employees of a local council in Scotland.

Forest has described the announcement that tobacco duty will continue to rise by inflation plus two per cent as "grossly unfair".

John Mallon, spokesman for Forest Ireland, said, “Smokers have been the whipping boys of successive governments for far too long."
