Forest condemns "another aggressive and illiberal attack on legitimate consumers"

Forest says demands by the anti-smoking group ASH for the government to do more to tackle smoking represent "another aggressive and illiberal attack on legitimate consumers".
 
Simon Clark, director of Forest, said:
 
"If adults make an informed choice to smoke that is a matter for them, not government or anti-smoking zealots. 
 
"Smoking rates have fallen sharply in recent years because many smokers have chosen voluntarily to switch to e-cigarettes without government intervention.
 
"Any attempt to force more smokers to quit would represent another aggressive and illiberal attack on legitimate consumers.
 
"It's not the government's job to end smoking. The government's role is to educate people about the relative risks of a wide range of consumer products. Beyond that it's a question of choice.
 
"Smokers are sick and tired of being targeted by anti-smoking campaigners and their friends in parliament.
 
"Enough is enough. Adults must be allowed to smoke without being discriminated against or infantilised."
